Many Muslim political analysts are urging the community to vote Democrat in November 2024. They view Trump as far more dangerous to Muslims and Palestinians, as well as to democratic institutions in the country. They believe that those voting against the Democrats want to punish the party for its pro-genocide stance in the Middle East. Furthermore, they argue that the community is on the path of destruction.
A vote is a sacred trust our constitution gives us. Before choosing the November election, we must ask the following questions.
Do we support candidates or parties who endorse genocide?
Do we support leaders who are loyal to lobbies?
Do we support politicians who divert our tax dollars to bomb innocent people
Do we stand for candidates who justify illegal occupation?
Do we cheer politicians who prefer a foreign country over our people?
Ask yourself these questions, and on November 5when you cast your ballot, be honest to your conscience.
Muslims do not make a political party. Their roots are in a moral system, regardless of their voting numbers. Their identity does not revolve around the Republican, Democratic, Libertarian, or Green Parties. They have a value system that binds them together. The essential ingredients of the value system are justice, sanctity, dignity of human life, and equality for all with no racial and ethnic discrimination.
The Democrats and Republicans represent lobbies and big interests. They are part of a culture where money, blackmailing, and racial discrimination play a significant role in grabbing power. Should a value-based group join the game and compromise its morality?
Will exercising their right to vote based on these values be wrong?
By the way, Muslims are not the only ones who uphold the values mentioned above. A million others claim them. Democracy creates opportunities for people to unite and elect people representing their values.
If Muslim leaders are urging the community to vote either Democrat or Republican, they are misleading it to the path of hypocrisy. They want the community to go against its collective conscience.
Should we choose political expediency or remain loyal to our values? We should live by our values in this election or any other aspect of our lives. The choice is clear. Sometimes, we will succeed or fail. But, our values will remain supreme to us.
